John V. “Braddah” “Hunter” Cardoza, Jr., 73, of Ookala, died Jan. 2 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Ookala, he was retired construction road crewman for Hamakua Sugar Plantation and a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Papaaloa. Friends may call Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Papaaloa. Visitation from 8-10 a.m.; Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire. Burial to follow at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Papaaloa. Survived by wife, Maria C. Cardoza of Ookala; daughters, Vivian Monica (Jim) Mace of Missouri and Blanche S. (Keith) Revilla of Puna; sons, John V. Cardoza III, Anthony C. Cardoza, Brada J. Cardoza, Jacob V. Cardoza and Hershal C. Charlotte Lynch, 88, of Waikoloa died Jan. 2 at the Life Care Center of Kona. Born in Oakland, Calif., she was a homemaker and member of Waikoloa Community Church. Iwao “Naka” Nakamura, 91, of Pahala died Dec. 22 at Ka‘u Hospital. Born in Pahala, he was retired from Ka‘u Sugar Co., a U.S. Army World War II veteran, Company I 442nd Regimental Combat Team, and member of Pahala Hongwanji Mission, Pahala Senior Citizens, ILWU Pensioners Club, American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans. Private services held. No koden. No flowers. Survived by wife, Ayako Nakamura of Pahala; sons, Todd T. Nakamura of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Kent T. Nakamura of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter, Jean E. (Mark) Miyashiro of Mililani, Oahu; sisters, Kimiko Nomura of Kurtistown, Nobuko Aoki of Captain Cook, Shizuko Kibe of Waipahu, Oahu, and Asano (Alfred) Tokunaga of Los Angeles; brother, Keiji (Doris) Nakamura of Honolulu; a granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews. Ethan Jared Rice, 35, of Kailua-Kona died Jan. 3 at home. Born in Monroe, Wash., he was a clerk at the Sea Store, a club manager in Minneapolis, Minn., laborer for SR Construction Company and crewmember on the sailboat “KIVA.” Friends may call at 1 p.m. Jan. 24 for a memorial service at Honokohau Boat Harbor at the point.
